Everyone needs a way to honor their favorite memories and retain that perfect recollection of the past, even as many of us are forced to make the difficult decision to leave our childhood haunts. We must find what is important to us, and we do that by exploring the world. What is so touching about Neighborhood is the idea that we should be grateful for having something to walk away from.

Our past defines us in part, but the future is still alive, and having a passion that drives us can often give perspective about what made us restless in the first place.

I threw my troubles and my bags in the back seat

With the counterpoint between homey nostalgia and gritty inspiration, we see the way that everyone solves the same problems differently. It is all about the love, and the family, and the hard work, through the lens of a unique personality.

Came back last night just to see you

The final lesson in becoming an adult is that we can only control ourselves. So often we realize how much time was wasted thinking we were getting through to somebody. The guest vocal from Bear Rinehart adds spice, and the signature laid-back sound of American Authors comes across in full. A sweet acoustic intro lays the groundwork for a beautiful mix of mid-tempo bounce, hooky melody, and melancholic splendor.

Neighborhood, the latest from American Authors feat. Bear Rinehart of NEEDTOBREATHE, is a validation for anyone’s urge to find the path as yet untaken. You know who you are.

American Authors is a rock band based in New York City currently signed to Island Records. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
