It feels increasingly that we are in a post-truth world, that the voice of the people is all but completely muffled, and that we are in a crisis of not having the means to consistently deliver truthful and unbiased information to the average American.

Everyone is on lockdown, schools are not going to be back in session at least until September, and it seems likely that Oregon will be moving into a shelter-in-place state mandate starting as early as tomorrow.

We have a small, fragile community, and it warmed my heart that so many businesses decided to do the right thing, without having to be told to do so. But at the same time, it feels like much of this country is still in need of a strong reality check.

There are still huge parts of society in the US that are taking this upheaval of ordinary life as an opportunity for celebration, and for travelers, students, and members of the gig economy, the opportunity for self-quarantine and so-called 'social distancing' has been limited, to put it mildly.
