Jack Carty - Stargazer (V2)

Carty somehow mirrors the then-acoustic sound of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, with generous verses and a feeling of absolute truth, just with a full band and better vocals.

The track here is a revisiting of the original from Hospital Hill; you may recognize some of the verses. It is packed with narrative, observation, and personal discovery, which fits well with the uptempo folk feel, and the Kerouac style of travel-reminiscence:

“And now the universe is spinning
and I have to play a show
I’m not sure what is coming
but when it happens I will know”— Jack Carty

The difference for V2 is that, contrasted with the open counterpoint of a stripped-down acoustic guitar with string accompaniment from the original version, the feeling here is everything all at once; it’s got a heavy shuffle with a fast pulse, a lot of drums and strumming and general rollicking swagger. Lyrically, there is something for everyone, as Carty somehow mirrors the then-acoustic sound of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, with generous verses and a feeling of absolute truth, just with a full band and better vocals.

Jack Carty is an Australian songwriter based in London. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist. Tour dates are listed below for this year.
