With an easy quarter note pulse underneath the slightest shuffle, it’s all nuance and hints of syncopation, and what sounds like a midi bass. You get the fret noise, and the string mutes, but also a synth tone and a killer decay.

It’s a slow and slinky pocket, and the addition of hand percussion and some clean funk riffing on the electric guitar gives added depth. Like all of the best Soul, the beat and the electric bass take center stage, while the crisp lead vocal has some elements of deep rhythm and blues.

Quincy Mumford, with his new single I Gotta Feeling, lays down some serious groove and gives everyone a reason to feel all right.

Multi-talented artist Quincy Mumford is based in Asbury Park, New Jersey. This song is featured on our Soul playlist.
