Los Angeles-based songwriter and performer Annika Rose is back with a new single. "Hypocrite" was leaked on TikTok at the end of last year and received more than half a million views before the official release. Annika wrote this track about playing the role of both therapist and friend for the people in her life. She has answers for so many questions—yet seldom does anyone actually listen to her advice.

This is something that happens to me a lot, and when I posted the song on TikTok, I soon learned that I wasn't alone.

"Hypocrite" marks the 2nd single this year from 19 -year-old Rose, leading up to highly anticipated EP which will be her first since her 2019 debut Ventura Boulevard. Referring to her songs as “journal entries put to melody,” Annika has deliberately stuck to the solitary songwriting practice she first adopted in her early teens. It just so happens that she finds her deepest inspiration after midnight, when everyone else is asleep.

I turn off all the lights and turn on my lava lamp, light some incense and just sit there until I’m literally asleep at the piano.

As a result of this mysterious and singular vision, Annika’s body of work bears the kind of raw authenticity and creative spark that so often evades the manufactured realm of mainstream pop. Annika Rose is committed to a sense of expression that follows directly from a personal rapport between her and the acoustic piano to which she bares her soul.

A sense of freedom and genuine vulnerability informs her work, and that fearlessness has put her in touch with legions of fellow music-lovers that often see themselves in her music. With narratives about being young, smart, and engaged in a modern, all-business world of high energy and self-contradiction, Rose's music hits the sweet spot between a celebration of life and a heartfelt exposition of human imperfection.
