You can feel the different instruments undulating into and out of focus, like a boat on the water, moving with the tide.

It’s a stunningly sparse and open harmonic landscape, built with piano and reverb and a shimmering vocal delivery, along with a simple violin hook. The words and syllables crackle, it’s the slow-sway of a plaintive ballad: introspective and just a bit sad.

There is that restraint, that depth of theme that is the hallmark of a background in composition: doing more with so much less. I love this kind of orchestral fullness that is only a few layers deep. You can feel the different instruments undulating into and out of focus, like a boat on the water, moving with the tide.

Vian Izak is a South African American artist/producer who creates anthemic indie pop music and pairs it with the whimsical illustrations of his brother, Hein Zaayman, to create a multimedia experience for fans. British composer and performer, Ben Laver, has teamed up with Izak to release a brand new single titled Save My Heart which is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
