Burying Giants is an indie folk act fronted by Will Pope, a musician based in London. With a voice that will leave you speechless, the soaring vocals, intricate harmonies, and bell-like upper register might be thought of as a unique halfway-point between the great Jeff Buckley and James Vincent McMorrow, while the folk-based song-craft and finger-picking style brings to mind the work of Tallest Man on Earth.
His self-titled debut album offers an enchanting glimpse into the wide, ethereal spaces that inhabit his creative mind, informed by a love of classic soul and organic, acoustic tones. "Stormy Seas" is the third track on this impressive release, and features—along with a beautifully emotive vocal performance—some of my favorite lyrics in recent memory. Burying Giants is expanding the boundaries of a folk and pop crossover by mixing a subtle jazz sensibility with the passionate, visceral sensibility of classic roots music.
