A beautifully-produced nod to both the lyrical wistfulness of an Elliott Smith and the juicy tube-sound of a band like Wilco.

I love that mellotron flute patch; I just do. This song is half Wallflowers, and half Moody Blues. The melody here floats between monotony and magic, in a Quakerly state of self-consciousness. It benefits from a certain rigidity using the backbone of that acoustic guitar, with a few wandering elements like the slide guitar and that Mellotron.

The beauty of this song lies in the character and the personality of the writing style. It is a beautifully-produced nod to both the lyrical wistfulness of an Elliott Smith and the juicy tube-sound of a band like Wilco.

Goodnight House is the primary musical output of Joel Lane, who is based in Portland, OR. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
