This one is a slow burn, and a real thinker. It's got that Elliott Smith way of lining up the affect with the emotion: the melancholic song delivered with pathos. But there is also something to the lyrics that feels cryptic, with a fluency between subjects:
“How to feel the way I felt
before you knew what I know now”— Jailbox
'Melting you into me' is a staple of relationships both codependent and less so, and because of that this song stands in well as an all-purpose anthem to the mysteries of personal relationships, and that vague feeling of wishing you could turn back the clock. A folk-inspired acoustic guitar along with a classic roots-band sound and some creative harmonies make this a bittersweet and lulling aural retrospective.
Jailbox is a folky Shoegaze band from Missouri. This song is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
