Bears testimony to our own sense of responsibility as living, breathing humans. What do we owe to the concept of life itself?
Krister Axel - Mar 29, 2020

Juni Poet is a producer and songwriter from Stockholm. He wrote "Heartbeat" with his friend Clairebear on a visit to Los Angeles over the summer, recognizing that a heart beats for an entire lifetime without getting to rest.

The heart is like a ticking clock - a symbol of mortality and the short time we’re given on this earth. Juni Poet and Clairebear wanted to explore that symbolism, and write a song that bears testimony to our own sense of responsibility as living, breathing humans. What do we owe to the concept of life itself?

A prominent kick drum doubles as the sound of a heartbeat, with a production aesthetic that combines melodic folk-pop with juicy electronic beats. "Heartbeat" delivers a heartfelt message of self-reflection, as we take ownership of the destiny we create for ourselves - and work tirelessly towards a life without regret.

I don’t want my life to be a flatline
Wake up when I’m old did I waste my life
So many beats I’ve lost as the years gone by
Wonder if my heart ever gets tired?

This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
