An easy mix of bluegrass, youthful energy, and melodic vibrato that is perfect for fans of Alison Krauss.

Liv Greene grew up in Washington D.C., listening to her parents' record collection. Her passion for the craft of songwriting took off the moment she taught herself her first guitar chords at the age of 12. Greene graduated Interlochen Arts Academy in northern Michigan in 2016 with honors, while receiving a Fine Arts Award in songwriting, a 2016 YoungArts Finalist in voice/singer-songwriter, and the songwriting department’s Artist of the Year Award.

In 2019, Greene was chosen from over 700 applicants and won the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Competition for Emerging Singer-Songwriters after competing among 32 finalists. Her streak of wins and honorable mentions already stretches from Savannah to Telluride, while her fresh sound is a welcome evolution of modern Americana and folk-influenced pop into a style that feels both classic and unique. "New York's Arms" opens with a prominent hook on the banjo, and builds layers of her beautiful lead vocal into a showcase of her undeniable talent as a songwriter. Written after a visit with her sister in New York, Liv ruminates over the vast possibilities of starting over, and the mysterious attraction that new challenges can bring to an adventurous heart. The result is an easy mix of bluegrass, youthful energy, and melodic vibrato that is perfect for fans of Alison Krauss.

Greene recorded her first full-length record "Every Bright Penny" at Dimension Sound Studios in Jamaica Plain, MA. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
