A note-to-self about the place where destiny meets a burning sense of indecision.

Mabes is an introspective folk musician from the UK. On her new single Saint, a soft and vulnerable lead vocal pairs well with the delicate acoustic guitar, bringing a Nick Drake style of virtuosity to the fingerpicking while Mabes pushes the boundaries of the music that has made Laura Marling famous: one guitar, one gorgeous vocal.

There are some added ambient flourishes, but the core of this track lives by the slightly halting cadence of the guitar-arpeggios and the sweet purity of the vocal pathos. This daring and lyrical statement about the danger of looking for salvation under the guise of attraction leads to a larger understanding about the reason we have love around us at all. Saint, the latest from UK folk-songstress Mabes, is a note-to-self about the place where destiny meets a burning sense of indecision.

Was he the one that’s come to rescue me
