With a gorgeous mix of acoustic piano, jazz drums, and double bass, GoGo Penguin unleashes a joyful, uplifting new track called "Ascent" which might remind you a bit of Brad Mehldau. The Manchester-based band composes and performs as a unit and the band members refer to their music as "acoustic-electronica." Formed in 2012, sophomore album v2.0 was nominated in 2014 for the Mercury Music Prize and in 2016, the trio signed to Blue Note Records.

"Ascent" is their first new music since 2020’s highly acclaimed fifth album "GoGo Penguin" and is the first to feature new drummer, Jon Scott, while also marking the beginning of a new partnership with the Sony/XXIM Records label. With waves of arpeggiated piano set against a buttery backdrop of bass riffs and impressive cymbal work, "Ascent" presents an emotional groove while beautifully illustrating the raw power of a live trio performance. This dynamic song checks all the boxes as a satisfying and unique example of modern, roots-flavored jazz and bodes well for their new release to be expected later in 2022.
