After working for years as side-woman for Sufjan Stevens, The National, and My Brightest Diamond, Marla Hansen returns to the spotlight with her first solo album in twelve years. "One Steps Up" is the seventh track from her new record "Dust" which is out now on the Karaoke Kalk label.

This ambitious, folk-wise confection sparkles with the confidence of an artist who is ready to explore a new sense of artistic freedom, while delivering a unique mix of acoustic guitar and electronic beats, masterfully layered with subtle vocals, lush strings, and elegant brass. This gorgeous symphony of modern sounds features electronics and synthesizer work from Berlin musician Barbara Morgenstern, along with precise, flowing percussion from Andi Haberl. With a casual, acoustic presence that might remind you of Alexi Murdoch, Marla Hansen delivers a sonic masterpiece that conjures the gentle atmosphere of wide-open landscapes and intimate, personal catharsis.

This song is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
