Michael Van Wagoner grew up in the middle of nowhere, USA, and has wanted to be a pop star since he was a kid. After dropping out of college in 2020 to focus on music, he moved to Las Vegas to intern for Imagine Dragons and The Killers, where he quickly learned the ins and outs of the music industry. Since then he has been producing and writing for a wide array of different artists, with songs of his being featured on New Music Friday (US), Fresh Pop, and Chill Pop alongside artists like Quinn XCII, Chelsea Cutler, and Lauv.

"Insecure" is an an anthemic track that explores the difficulties of opening up to someone, and the vulnerability involved with sharing honest emotion. In a collaboration with Rylan Hair, Van Wagoner takes inspiration from Illenium for a big dynamic lift after the chorus and a fresh electronic production style. "Insecure" combines elements from electro and EDM as Van Wagoner showcases a talent for writing catchy pop melodies alongside his ability to match heartfelt vocals with a theme that anyone can relate to.

There's something I still hold in
I'm too ashamed to show it
But I feel like I'm never enough
And I fear I'll mess everything up

I'm haunted by the notion
That all our doors are closing
Do you lie awake thinking of us
Or were we made just to crumble to dust?
