Amanda Cy - Weightless

Offers a sparse, ice cold take on the rhythm section that echoes the work of minimalist groove technicians like Mac DeMarco, Bahamas, and Faye Webster.

I've been listening to this song for weeks now: there's something really intimate about the vocals here, but "Weightless" also has a sort of punk sensibility, embedded in the lyrical tone. Amanda Cy is having an important conversation with herself, around the way life occasionally feels like a cycle of self-sabotage. But this is not a cry for help; this is a note left for other seekers on the importance of personal clarity.

Based in Stockholm, with London quickly becoming her second home, Amanda has developed strong partnerships within an international community of other creatives. Amanda launched her career in 2021 with acclaimed EP Eugh!, and single "My Name Next to Yours" was named one of 2021’s best songs by Vogue Scandinavia.

Next was the release of Waterworks, in 2024, and her 3rd EP LOVEGRUNGE was released in April of this year. "Weightless" is the penultimate track on this five-song EP, which finds Amanda doubling down on her lyrical talents while offering a sparse, ice cold take on the rhythm section that echoes the work of minimalist groove technicians like Mac DeMarco, Bahamas, and Faye Webster. A fantastic vocal performance rounds out this long look at how most humans end up standing in their own way.

Could be flying if I let myself make it
Bottle up the right feelings and taste em’
If I didn’t dig my teeth into pavement
I could be weightless
Let’s face it
Ain’t nobody got the time or the patience

Outside of music, Amanda is a keen mountain climber and her experiences in the Swedish wilderness often inspire her – whether it's by being in the moment with stillness & a breathtaking view, or by studying the complexity of systems that exist in nature.
