Swedish alt-pop duo Pom Femme are back with a feel-good summer track "Nightingale Blue," released by Johan Bolero Recordings. Michelle Amkoff and Philippa Magnusson are the two members of Pom Femme who share duties as songwriters, and lead singers. Together, they share a common musical heritage that honors the small town vibes of Aix-en-Provence and the cultural legacy of French exceptionalism, while keeping a foot squarely in Stockholm’s Old Town. Michelle Amkoff is a former producer for various Swedish artists and has also acted as an engineer for several years for the star producer Patrik Berger. Philippa Magnusson is a songwriter who also goes by the stage name Bluephox.
As Pom Femme, Amkoff and Magnusson enjoy the opportunity to make music together, inspired by Swedish music icons like Ted Gärdestad and Pugh Rogefeldt.
You can be cold as hell
I'll always see the summer in you
At its core, "Nightingale Blue" explores that visceral moment of discovery, sort of like opening a present, when we finally discover the true nature of the moment we find ourselves in. The larger metaphor has to do with the perceived elements of the birdsong itself, and whether or not they meet our expectations. But the general theme just feels like a genuine suggestion to opt for love and acceptance whenever possible.
With a beautiful and ever-present melody to adorn this light, acoustic pop number, "Nightingale Blue" lands somewhere 'where offbeat birdsong meets a sun-warmed heart.' For me, this mix of acoustic guitar, unison harmony, and hand percussion feels like a Sunday morning jam: partly a cure for last night's hangover, and perhaps the start of another adventure.
