With references that range from Nick Drake to Joanna Newsom, Prince Enoki's artistic vision explores the intersection of western classical music, Afro-Cuban rhythms, New Age, and many other styles. In his unique way, Prince Enoki arrives at a groove-heavy balance between a kora-like instrument, woodwinds, and a lively rhythm section. I fell in love immediately with the rhythmic narrative and the virtuosic performances. The improvisational nature of the kora soloing, accompanied with a gorgeous arrangement for flutes and clarinet, obscures the circular structure of the snare work. This song is simply a triumph of live performance 'vibes'–even if the tracks were recorded separately, the feel is on point. Unsurprisingly, Enoki finds himself in the company of extraordinary musicians such as the Massey Hall Band, the Tuvan National Orchestra, Laraaji, and Carioca Freitas.

At its core, "The Function of Freedom (It's Your Turn)" is a song about hope, and a call to find strength when the world feels heavy. This vibrant song offers us a path through the storm that blinds us–and offers a reminder that the human heart will always have power.

This idea is inspired by the Haudenosaunee concept of Orenda—the spiritual energy that exists in all things and can be wielded by those who recognize it.

Originally a jazz bassist and session player, Prince Enoki's artistic evolution led him to explore diverse roles as a composer's assistant, arranger, and producer.
