Brooklyn-based alt-indie artist Sam Himself, originally from Switzerland, releases his new EP "Slow Drugs" together with a music video for featured track "Like a Friend," shot in the Swiss city of Zurich. This stunning visual experience takes us on a night's journey through the seedy underbelly of Switzerland's biggest city - where drugs are decriminalized, prostitution is legal, and last call rarely comes before dawn.

According to Sam this song explores the idea of "admitting to yourself that an era of your history is over, that you've exhausted some defining idea of who you are." With a stylistic nod to the understated baritone of Leonard Cohen and the eclectic pop voodoo of Amen Dunes, Sam Himself was reunited in the studio with Josh Werner (bass - Iggy Pop; Bill Laswell) and Parker Kindred (drums - Jeff Buckley) under the direction of mixer and producer Daniel Schlett (DIIV, The War on Drugs). The result is a brooding and lustral moment of personal intervention, as we revel in the movement between old aspirations and the reality of current circumstance.

When the wheel comes down
I need you to tell me
When the light goes out
Look at me and tell me
Like a friend

The video for "Like A Friend" also marks the screen debut of Sam's little brother. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
