With a rhythm section drenched in ethereal and dreamy reverb, Ruby Randall’s new single The City is a delectable piece of artistic commiseration. For most of us, finding inspiration and appreciating the temporal nature of beauty itself is a life’s work, here Randall offers us a memento for the trip, and perhaps even a shortcut to some personal acceptance:

It strikes a tone of casual elegance that feels very urban, very premeditated, and very well-executed: the stop-and-go relationship between the hi-hat, the tambourine, and the snare hits is hard to do without sounding choppy, but the performances here are outstanding and the flow mesmerizes. A surf sound to the telecaster track rounds out a very crisp mix from this promising Canadian talent.
