It's that archaic trinity of drums, bass, and fuzzy guitar, that lays down a bed of nails for the voice of Spacey Jane to bleed upon. It's an instant classic for the indie-rock genre: disaffected, tuneful vocals, ever so shattered, with a pronounced band-sound, and a strong pop sensibility. And I love it when ladies play bass.

It's got that live feeling, a great chorus, and a drum pocket that feels mesmerizing, suitably washed out as it is over everything but the verse. It's interesting to listen to these instruments pass the torch around: the guitar fights the bass, the vocals fight the guitar, a dynamic mix pulls the yin and yang together. Spacey Jane, simply put, is a groovy good time.

Spacey Jane is a four-piece garage-pop band from Fremantle, Western Australia. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
