This one touches on that whispered world between love and friendship, with a hint of pain in the lead vocal, and a beautifully-delivered duet. Written in part as a healing process in and of itself, this song has the personal stake and the artistic commitment to tell it like it is.

It’s complicated, it’s codependent: it’s life, and there is that mild hangover, the lesson with punishment attached, inherent in the droned root and complement, segueing into half-bar changes that feel rushed, and thus vital. It’s a meditation on human connection, and the road there that lies untravelled.

The Hunter Express is an indie rock project by Australian songwriter, Brad Ellis. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
