From the bounce of that big double-bass, to the casual riffing on a classic Rhodes, to the delicate lead vocals, the presentation here is groove-forward. With a haunting drone across the same 2-bar phrase that segues to a short bridge, the dynamics release right back into the same flowing pocket, just with more cowbell.

The entire production reads as a poem: of style, of polyrhythm, and loose harmony. The name Voyage is fitting, as the song takes on the feeling of a procession: a lazy, swaying march through the verdant pastures of jazz idiom.

TORTIE is an indie-jazz band from San Francisco. This song is featured on our Groovy Summer playlist.
