So I was finally able to go through all of my old archives that I had been saving since the move from the West Coast. I had a whole virtual stack of MP3s from back when I used Google Music to create my own playlists. There was a time years and years ago when you could upload all your personal MP3s to Google and they would manage them for you. They have removed that service, but I was able copy all of my old songs from that collection just before they took it offline. So this month includes a lot of new releases, but also some vintage stuff that was rescued from that old playlist ecosystem. That's partly why the list is so big this month.
I also found some real gems, for example my old LA friend Adrianne had a project called Captains and Captives, and a few years back she posted two promo tracks on Facebook. As far as I can tell that project has now been retired, so you won't find either of these tracks really anywhere—except that now they are spinning on CHILLFILTR radio. So we got that going for us, which is nice.
Also, when I started the radio station more than two years ago now, I promised myself to not post too many of my own tracks, just because that (to me) would feel a bit like a conflict of interest. But my meager Spotify numbers had a bit of a spike last month, so I decided to post a few tracks from my catalog that seem to have been doing pretty well on Spotify. So that's where those came from.
My numbers are almost back to normal now, so whatever was happening there is more or less over. But for a brief and glorious moment in time, I had almost 1000 monthly listeners so for that I am grateful. :)
Martha Wainwright has a new album which is fantastic, and my friend Courtney Hartman posted a new release last month as well. Neal Francis just got signed to one of my favorite labels, ATO, and his new album is quite impressive. So it's been a great month for new music all around.
