Toranpetto - Portland Rain

Funny how the sound of rain can be a universal artistic touchpoint: it is everywhere, and at the same time, unique to right here.

I love this kind of groove: you get that slight swing, the big sound of the double bass, and some simple piano to round out the riff. The kick drum jumps in right away, and never lets you go. With the bridge taking you out, the circularity of the beginning motif is severed, leaving you with that quizzical feeling of wanting another listen.

With only tone and groove to lead the way, it’s the gateway to an interior conversation. Funny how the sound of rain can be a universal artistic touchpoint: it is everywhere, and at the same time, unique to right here.
