We wrote about Emily James years ago when she was just getting started. Now, she's connected with a huge fan base and penned a deal with Nettwerk Records, so you could say the world is warming up to her gorgeous voice and massive talent as a songwriter. "Cannonball" is a beautifully-delivered exploration of the intricacies of love, including the 'fear and inner-conflict and heartbreak that often comes along with it.' This intimate track is the first in Emily's repertoire that plainly celebrates the euphoria of a romantic connection. It is a kindhearted and uncomplicated reminder to enjoy the moments that are special in our life.

The accompanying video was co-directed by Emily and Kristen Brancaccio, which depicts a couple revealing their unspoken feelings for each other in a crisply surreal environment—dominated by scattered memories and cool hues of white and blue. They "paint" their emotions and dreams of a future together on each other, as visuals of their imagined relationship appear on each other's skin. As the song progresses, so does the relationship, culminating in a present moment, up-all-night bender and a midnight jump in the pool.

Emily James' new EP for Nettwerk is out July 15th, and it is clear that she is on top of her game. Her voice has always been truly stunning, and with songwriting talents and production instinct to match, her future is very bright. We look forward to hearing more from this passionate, one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter.

Emily James truly steps into her own on her forthcoming EP, Illuminate, due out on July 15, 2022. Driven by textured, ethereal pop melodies and her enchanting vocals, the EP sees Emily branching out musically and diving into an entirely new realm of narrative depth. She’s compiled this next iteration over the past year, blending the intimate with the grandiose as she opens up about new relationships and tackles the uncertainties of life’s changes. Illuminate also features Emily’s production credits, with half of the songs written and produced solely by her.
