It is that backbeat chop, the dirt, the nowhere-to-hide nature of the entire arrangement that just says gritty blues with a Hendrix-style pomp.

As a guitar-drums blues duo, The Black Keys come to mind as a comparison, and there is a riff-driven spine to this song that speaks to that. I Wanna Know, by Money & The Man, descends into a surprising deep guitar fuzz that brings to mind a sort of amp-driven sound destruction, in a classic turn of the high-verse and the low-chorus.

A heavy 4-count on the kick drum will get you pretty far, and an overdriven electric guitar does the rest of the work, leaving the vocals to cozy up the center of the mix in what feels like a live take. It is that backbeat chop, the dirt, the nowhere-to-hide nature of the entire arrangement that just says gritty blues with a Hendrix-style pomp.

Money & The Man is a garage-blues duo from the Netherlands. This song is featured on our Roots collection playlist.
